The GUBERNA Summer School is a brand-new initiative as part of our open education programme that promotes continuous learning and brings our alumni up to speed with new developments.
The training focuses on topics that constitute a strategic challenge for good governance. It aims to maintain a high level of knowledge and competence for our alumni.
In a reflection at the start of the year, GUBERNA pinpointed its research and education themes for 2020. We predicted that two key elements of the third wave of governance would play a determining role in 2020. First, the role of organisations in society will continue to grow while also being questioned, and their impact on sustainability regulations and measures is increasingly relevant. Second, the interconnectivity of people, organisations and society is exponentially expanding due to far-reaching technological and digital development.
How can organisations be agile and impactful in an increasingly connected and cooperative world? How can they adapt to a “changing environment”, marked by this new cross-cutting societal issue of sustainable development? GUBERNA, conscious of these questions, originally conceived the Summer School to help its alumni optimise their capacity to adapt to Digitalisation and Sustainability.
However, no one could have imagined how these topics have become even more relevant in the current times.
In these times of Covid-19, digitalisation has proven itself as unavoidable in all companies. Our summer school will serve as a moment of reflection on how we can structuralise this digitalisation in the future functioning of boards and organisations. Sustainability is perhaps a topic which has disappeared from the agenda of boards in these times of crisis. However, preparing for the post-Covid future, sustainability topics will and should reappear most profoundly in all organisations. This is the time to integrate sustainability in all our actions.
Furthermore, the question also rises if sustainability and digitalisation are linked with each other: are they mutual exclusive? Or are they compatible, even enhancing each other?
We invite you to learn, reflect and act with us in our workshop and case study!
