Sports Governance

With respect for the sports practitioner, sports organisations and the public interest, GUBERNA aims to promote good governance in sport, and to support Belgian sports federations, leagues and clubs, and the various stakeholders (sponsors, media, researchers, government ...) in the Communities in their implementation. We work to build a growing community of like-minded people across communities, where information and knowledge and good practices are shared.

Sport

Sport is one of the crucial pillars in our society. It is a known and valued binding agent between people and organisations. The values of sport can indeed be called universal.  

  • Sport has a clear health value
  • Sport has a social value and brings people together without discrimination
  • Sport brings about team spirit and positive attitude 
  • To ensure that the 'sporting' aspect remains central to practice, integrity in sport is crucial. 

GUBERNA supports the passion of sports organizations and their sponsors, bringing together diverse interests to create societal value. As a knowledge center for good governance, GUBERNA promotes effective governance as a lever to achieve objectives and address challenges in the world of sports.

Sports sponsorship charter

The first 'product' with our community is ready. Together with a number of sports federations and corporate sponsors, we have worked out a sports sponsorship charter. For large and small, it provides manageable basic principles and mutual commitments in the relationship between sponsor and sports federation. It is a unique and flexible instrument to make agreements based on shared values and objectives.

  • Sports

    Code of Good Governance of Flemish sports federations

    In July 2016, the Code for good governance in Flemish sports federations was published -the so-called Code Muyters. The code is the final result of a research assignment (A. Geeraert and E. Drieskens) and is built around three dimensions, namely transparency, democracy and sound internal control. These dimensions are further developed in the code into 43 concrete principles and 25 practical tips.

    Good governance tailored to the social-profit sector - webinar series

    Thanks to the support of the National Lottery and its players, GUBERNA has created a series of 4 webinars on this topic! Each webinar will last a maximum of 20 minutes and focus on a specific theme. We will provide principles and tools for good governance practice, but we will not be alone. We will also draw on the practices of a number of non-profit organisations, including Bednet, Emmaus, Tajo, Triathlon Club SMO, Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc, NewB, Iles de Paix and Notre Village VZW.
