Hospital Governance
What is it?
GUBERNA is committed to promoting good governance practices within the healthcare sector, with a particular focus on hospitals. This commitment is reflected in the Hospital Governance initiative, launched in 2019. The initiative serves as a platform for GUBERNA members active in the healthcare sector, providing them with the opportunity to come together and exchange experiences on a wide range of governance issues specific to hospitals.
In response to the profound changes taking place across the healthcare sector, GUBERNA develops initiatives and practical tools to support stakeholders in addressing the governance challenges they face.

AI Governance for Healthcare Boards: Six Strategic Questions for the Boardroom
AI has already become part of multiple daily routines. The way boards operate — and the questions they need to address — must also evolve. Boards need to integrate the power of data and AI into their governance, strategy and oversight. Healthcare, one of the most knowledge-intensive and highly regulated sectors, brings together multiple stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem and therefore requires a tailored approach to governing AI. The following six strategic questions help healthcare boards govern AI and data responsibly.
These questions build on the GUBERNA AI Governance Framework. Together, they offer healthcare boards a structured lens to evaluate their strategic intent, risk posture, workforce readiness, governance structures, operational transformation and role within the broader healthcare ecosystem.
Hospital Governance Forum
The Hospital Governance Forum is an initiative of GUBERNA launched in 2019. Its purpose is to bring together GUBERNA members who are active in the hospital sector. The forum provides a platform for peers to exchange experiences and discuss a wide range of issues related to hospital governance.
Given the significant changes taking place in the sector, GUBERNA pays particular attention to these developments by creating initiatives and practical tools to support stakeholders in addressing the governance challenges they face. In practice, the Hospital Governance Forum meets at least twice a year to discuss a specific governance topic. Each meeting begins with a case presentation by a member of the Hospital Governance Forum, followed by a peer discussion. Where relevant, GUBERNA publishes a practical report on the topic discussed (available under Publications).
As the recent federal legislation requiring hospitals to form hospital networks has raised a number of governance issues, this theme serves as the common thread running through the topics discussed during the Forum's meetings.
Are you a GUBERNA member active in the hospital sector? If so, the Hospital Governance Forum may be of interest to you. Simply send an email to social@guberna.be to receive an invitation to the Forum meetings. Registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis.
