The Secretary General Platform Exchange is an exclusive peer-learning moment organised by GUBERNA, bringing together experienced governance professionals to reflect on complex governance topics and challenges.

The platform is built around confidential, practice-driven exchanges under Chatham House Rules. Participants engage in structured discussions that mirror the governance dilemmas faced by Secretary Generals, enabling them to test approaches, challenge assumptions, and learn from peers facing similar pressures.

About the event

Through interactive case discussions and expert facilitation, participants benchmark practices, gain fresh perspectives, and explore how to act in sensitive or complex governance situations.

Since its launch, the platform has addressed a series of critical and often under-discussed SG topics, including:

  • Managing board turnover
  • How to organize the board review processes
  • Structuring the board agenda
  • AI use within the board
  • Balancing transparency and discretion

The discussions reflect broad structural themes shaping Secretaries General’s agendas, such as ensuring information alignment between the board and management, fulfilling the secretary’s safeguarding role, and responding to the evolving expectations placed on boards of directors.

The next edition will take place on Wednesday 21 October from 16:30 to 19:30 at Sibelco in Antwerp, followed by a networking reception.
